Terms of use
The plain-language rules for using GetTheText and youtubetext.com.
- The service is free and provided as-is, with no promise that it will always work or always be right.
- Transcripts belong to the people who made the videos; use them the way copyright allows.
- Use the site like a person would. Automated bulk use may be blocked without notice.
The service
GetTheText turns public YouTube videos into text you can read, search and download. It's an independent website, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube or Google, and it does not host or download videos.
You need to be at least 13 to use it, or the minimum age for online services where you live if that's higher.
Your content, their content
Transcripts and subtitles remain the property of the video's creator or rights holder. You are responsible for how you use them. Quoting for study, research, criticism, commentary or accessibility is generally fine; republishing whole transcripts as your own usually isn't.
The site itself, its name, design and code, belong to us. You may use the site for personal and internal business purposes; you may not copy, resell or rebrand it.
Copyright complaints
If you own a video and don't want its transcript shown here, or you believe something on the site infringes your rights, contact us with the video link and a short description of the claim. We'll respond promptly and remove or block the transcript where appropriate.
Acceptable use
Use the site like a person would. Don't scrape it, run bulk or automated requests, try to bypass rate limits, probe for vulnerabilities, reverse-engineer it, or use it to build a competing service. Don't use it for anything unlawful. New videos are processed at a limited rate, and activity that breaks these rules may be blocked without notice. If you need volume, contact us first.
Availability and changes
We may change, pause or discontinue any part of the service at any time, and we may block any visitor or video without notice or liability. We try to keep the site up, but there's no guarantee it will be available at any given moment.
No warranty
The service is provided as-is and as-available, without warranty of any kind, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a purpose or non-infringement. Automatically generated text can be wrong, and machine translations more so. Check anything you rely on.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from your use of the service or reliance on a transcript. Where liability can't be excluded, it's limited to the amount you paid us to use the service, which is nothing.
Your responsibility
If your use of the service or your breach of these terms leads to a claim against us by someone else, you agree to cover the costs and damages that result.
Third-party sites
Links to YouTube and other sites are provided for convenience. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content or practices.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country where the operator of GetTheText is established, and disputes go to the courts there, unless the consumer law where you live gives you a right to something else. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
Changes and contact
We'll update the date at the top when these terms change. Continued use after a change means you accept it. Questions go through the contact page.
